Airness- Spring Play 2024

THE STORY: When Nina enters her first air guitar competition, she thinks winning will be easy. But as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds all committed to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there’s more to this art form than playing pretend; it’s about finding yourself in your favorite songs, and performing with raw joy. Will Nina be able to let go and set herself free onstage? Following her mission to shred or be shredded, Airness is an exuberant reminder that everything we need to rock is already inside us. It is a comedy about competition and finding the airness inside yourself.

Eloisa Lopez (Nina and later, The Ninaaa) – This is Eloisa Lopez’s fourth play in Yuba College, she is honored to have had the role of Nina in this Production and has had a lot of fun playing her. Before this production she played Becky in Pocatello, Karen in Night of the Living Dead, Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Schroeder in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, and more. Apart from acting she loves to explore, and read; she also loves animals, writing, eating, and learning new things. She aspires to be an actor who can perform for hundreds of thousands of people. She hopes you love this production, as much as she loved putting Nina together and performing her. Enjoy The Show!!

Asaiah Dangerfield (Shreddy Eddy) is an actor in multiple realms of creativity. He makes music, acts, and also paints when he has time. He spends a lot of time pursuing his passions which he uses as a compass to go to the next project he wants to work on.

Dorothy Cunningham (Cannibal Queen) was last seen at the YC Theatre for the 2022 production of Silent Sky. She has appeared in Caucasian Chalk Circle, Stage Door, and Almost Maine and has held various tech positions in other Yuba College Productions and The Acting Company.

Cast:

Olumide Coker (Ben), by day, can be found working at Wheatland Union High School as a special education teacher, but at night, he pursues his talents in various performative arts. Some may recognize him by his stage name, “Dark Fox Olumide,” most recently seen wrestling for WestCoast Wrestling Federation in Yuba City. Coker first came to acting around 2018 during The Acting Company’s production of “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol.” He has since performed in It’s A Wonderful Life, and most recently in Daisy’s Dilemma, both in Yuba City, but Night of the Living Dead Live will be his largest role and debut with the Yuba College Theatre in Marysville. Olumide is a Yuba College and Chico State graduate.

Elizabeth Sutton (Barbara) is a theatre graduate who hopes to one day own her own theater and teach the next generation. She has been doing theater since she was in 8th grade and has no plans of
stopping anytime soon. Among her previous roles are Snow White, Kate Hardcastle (She Stoops
to Conquer), Mary (Our County’s Good), Tillius (She Kills Monsters), the Detective (A Virtual Whodunnit,) Martha (Spring Awakening), and various roles in The Laramie Project.

Aiden Hayes (Harry) would like to extend his gratitude and thanks to his family and friends who have helped him throughout his acting journey, by giving him food, rides, a place to sleep, and two cats. He couldn’t have done it without you all. His previous roles include Elly Award-winning performance of Wilbur in Charlotte’s Web, and his Elly nominated performance as the Evil Stepsister in Unfairest of Them All. He played George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life, Boo from Boo!, and was the stunt double for Aragorn’s broken toe in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. 

Rose Irvine (Radio/TV Announcer/Old Fashion Zombie) graduated from Yuba College in the spring of 2023, earning three associate degrees in Theatre Arts, Music, and Arts and Humanities, respectively. She has participated in several Yuba College Theatre productions, portraying Henrietta Leavitt in Silent Sky, as well as working as a member of the technical crew for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Pocatello. Rose is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Film Production at CSU Sacramento.

Caleb Schauer (Tom) returns for his second play Yuba College. Caleb was previously in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the roles of Demetrius & Flute. Caleb is a musician and is majoring in Music and Film. Caleb is 17 and a high school student but as a dual enrollment student, he is working towards transferring to Sac State. He has also had experience as a dancer and singer. Caleb is the production’s choreographer and fight captain.

Pearl Andrade (Judy) was previously seen in The Twelve at Glad Tidings, The Brother’s Grimm Spectaculathon with Core Charter, and Miss Electricity with The Acting Company. She loves reading, writing, creating artwork, and watching horror movies. Night of the Living Dead has been her favorite production she has been in thus far.

Her other roles include the Queen in Once Upon A Time. At Yuba College, she was Puck in A Midsummers Night’s Dream and Becky in Pocatello. She likes to write poetry, play soccer, and discover her surroundings, which she likes to use to expand her creativity. 

Asaiah Dangerfield (Graveyard Zombie/General) is a young actor who started acting back in elementary, since then he fell in love with acting and wants to pursue it as a career. You may have seen him in “ Almost Maine, “ “ Cinderella , “ “ The Laramie Project, “ and “ Green Eggs and Hamlet. “

James Ball (Chief) is a Yuba College music and acting student.

Thomas Garnish (Vince) is an acting and fire academy student.

Mandy Cox (Helen) returns to Yuba College Theatre after a ten-year break. She is currently a music student.

Marcus Dominic (Johnny/Bill Cardille) is new to the stage, and this is his first play. He is an acting student at Yuba College.

Spring 2023:

Pocatello by Samuel D. Hunter

Eddie manages an Italian chain restaurant in a small American city that is slowly being paved over with strip malls and franchises. But he can’t serve enough Soup, Salad & Breadstick Specials to make his hometown feel like home. From the author of the Oscar-winning movie, The Whale, Samuel D. Hunter’s heartbreaking play is a cry for connection and identity in an increasingly lonely American landscape.

Alberto Salcedo (Eddy) is a first-year theatre student performing in his second play at Yuba College. Alberto is ambitious, determined, and adaptable. He wants to move into a bigger city with more opportunities. He speaks English and Spanish, loves fashion, and knows how to dress up. He wants to be a professional actor and plans to continue his studies at university.

    Arianna Perez is an accounting student at Yuba College, and this is her first play.

Denice D. Burbach (Doris) currently serves as Professor and Coordinator for the Early Childhood Education at Yuba College. She is thankful for this opportunity to return to the Yuba College stage. While a student at Yuba College, Denice had the opportunity to work with David Wheeler and portray some of her favorite roles, including Katherina in Taming of the Shrew, Gertrude in Hamlet, Jocasta in Oedipus, and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. Denice began working in theater as a student at Hollywood High School and went on to work at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (PCPA). While at PCPA, she played Hedda Gabler in Hedda Gabler, Helen in Trojan Women, Catherine in Suddenly Last Summer, and Nurse Flynn in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Other favorite roles at various theatres include Amanda in Glass Menagerie, Chick Boyle in Crimes of the Heart, and Candy Star in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. She was most recently seen in the role of Mrs. Alexander in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, and Williamina Fleming in Silent Sky at the Yuba College Theatre. We are very happy to have her as part of our cast for Pocatello.

Eloisa Lopez (Becky) is 19 years old and has been acting for five years. Starting off at Yuba City High School, she performed in several plays, including her favorite role Schroeder in the musical You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. Her other roles include the Queen in Once Upon A Time and Puck from A Midsummers Night’s Dream, performed at Yuba College. She likes to write poetry, play soccer, and discover her surroundings, which she likes to use to expand her creativity. Eloisa plans on transferring to a four-year college in New York to gain a master’s degree in English and pursue acting. She has worked very hard in this production and hopes you enjoy the show

Justin Hankins (Max ) is a 2022 graduate of Sutter Union High School.  Justin began his acting career as a sophomore and had the pleasure of performing in many school plays, including “King Midas and the Golden Touch,” “Same Room, Different Story”,  “Treasure Island,” “Mary Poppins,” and “Hit and Misdemeanor.” His favorite role was O’Brien, a drunken Irish pirate in the play “Treasure Island.”  He has also had the opportunity to work with costumes, lighting, sound, and prop management.  Justin is currently attending Yuba College, pursuing a degree in theater arts.

Lee Sloan (Tammy) is an acting student here at Yuba College. Previous roles include: Mary Poppins (The Acting Company), Rizzo from Grease (Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts). Lee looks forward to further working with the theatre department of Yuba College and treasures the experience.

Marc Flacks (Cole) has been a sociology professor at Yuba College since 2008. Back in high school and college, he was quite active in theater and musical performance, but this is his first stage role in over thirty years. Among his most memorable parts were W.O. Gant (“Look Homeward, Angel”) at Santa Barbara High School, and Simon Zealotes (“Jesus Christ Superstar”), Berger (“Hair”), and Giles Corey (“The Crucible”), all at Wesleyan University. The producers wish to clarify that Mr. Flacks is not in his 70’s.

Micah Herbert (Nick) was born in Clearwater, Florida, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan.  He spent 11 years on active duty in the Air Force and is still in the California Air National Guard.  He works full-time in home maintenance while studying theater arts at Yuba College.  He is really enjoying the process of rehearsal and putting together the play.

Michael Espinoza (Lysander) This is Mike’s second play. Mike tries most things twice but we hope he will do more plays in the future. Adam Driver endorses acting saying, “You have people trying to accomplish a mission greater than themselves.” As a fellow Marine, I decided to give it a shot.

Quinn Rickert (Kelly) is a music major. Quinn played Hippolyta and Titania in A Midsummer’s Night Dream last fall and has been doing theater since she was 12. She has been singing and acting at a college
level since 2014. She wrote music titled, “Fairy’s Song”, with another
actor, Caleb Schauer, for this play and plans on continuing with such
work. Some of her previous theater performances include minor roles in
Little Shop of Horrors, She Loves Me, and Dido and Aeneas.

Sarah Barnes (Stage Manager) is a spunky sophomore pursuing a degree in Psychology. This is her third production at Yuba College as a stage manager. She is also the president of the psychology club and hosts the safe space for LGBTQ+ students on campus. She loves to garden and to spend time with her puppy. In the future, she hopes to work for a nonprofit that helps disabled people or the LGBTQ+ community.

Rose Irvine (Sound/Video/Set Builder) is a student at Yuba College working toward earning her Associate of Arts degree in Theatre Arts. She has also completed the coursework for two additional AAs, one in Music and one in General Education — Arts and Humanities. Though this is her first play at Yuba College, she has performed in high school and community theatre productions, portraying roles such as Cecily Cardew in The Importance of Being Earnest, and Amy March in Creative Light Theatre’s original musical adaptation of Little Women. After graduating, Rose plans to transfer to a university to study filmmaking.

Dorothy Cunningham (Deputy Stage Manager) is returning to the Yuba College theatre after performing in last spring’s production of Silent Sky. She has appeared in Caucasian Chalk Circle, Stage Door, and Almost Maine and has held various tech positions in other Yuba College Productions. Dorothy recently Stage managed Oleanna at The Acting Company.

Playwright – Samuel D. Hunter received a B.F.A. (2004) from New York University, an M.F.A. (2007) from the University of Iowa, and an Artist Diploma (2009) from Juilliard’s Playwrights Program. He is a resident playwright at New Dramatists, an ensemble playwright at Victory Gardens, and a member of Partial Comfort Productions. His plays have been produced at such venues as Playwrights Horizons, South Coast Repertory, Victory Gardens, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Old Globe, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.

Elsie Marie Prather (Oberon/Thesius) is a theatre major at Yuba College. She enjoyed playing Florina in our college’s production of A Virtual Whodunnit and multiple characters in The Laramie Project.  She has loved performing from a young age and plans on pursuing a BFA in theatre performance. Some of her favorite past acting experiences consist of: playing Ronnette in her high school’s production of Little Shop of Horrors, and being the female understudy for her high school’s production of The Miracle Worker. She’d like to thank her friends and family for all the love and support and for putting up with her belting show tunes on road trips.

Quinn Rickert (Hippolyta/Titania) is a music major. Quinn played Hippolyta and Titania in A Midsummer’s Night Dream last fall and has been doing
theater since she was 12. She has been singing and acting at a college
level since 2014. She wrote music titled, “Fairy’s Song”, with another
actor, Caleb Schauer, for this play and plans on continuing with such
work. Some of her previous theater performances include minor roles in
Little Shop of Horrors, She Loves Me, and Dido and Aeneas.

Eloisa Lopez (Becky) was last seen as Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and has been in 13 other plays; her favorite role was Schroeder in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. She likes to write poetry, play soccer, and discover her surroundings, which she likes to use to expand her creativity. She aims to study English, theatre, and psychology and pursue storytelling as a career. 

Samuel Scott (Bottom) is excited to return to the Yuba College stage and play in his first Shakespeare production. Samuel’s favorite roles include playing Eddie Carbone in A View from the Bridge, Ed Boone in Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, and Pastor Greg in Hand to God.

La’Rae Imani Stephens (Helena/Fairy)- This is La’Rae’s first play, and she’s majoring in Theater Arts. During La’Rae’s senior year of high school, she performed in a musical called The Drowsy Chaperone, where she was a part of the ensemble. She enjoys theatre and hopes to become a great actress.

Caleb Schauer (Demetrius/Flute/Fairy) is a new actor and is happy to make his debut in this play. He is a dual enrollment student in high school while taking classes here at Yuba College. He is also a dancer of 12 years at Jacque’s Dance Expressions. Caleb co-wrote the music for the play’s “Fairy’s Song.”

Michael Espinoza (Lysander) This is Mike’s second play. Mike tries most things twice but we hope he will do more plays in the future. Adam Driver endorses acting saying, “You have people trying to accomplish a mission greater than themselves.” As a fellow Marine, I decided to give it a shot.

Gibram Torres (Snout/Wall/Fairy) is majoring in mechanics and this is his first play.

Alberto Salcedo (Quince/Fairy) is a first-year theatre student performing in his first play. Alberto is ambitious, determined, and adaptable. He wants to move into a bigger city with more opportunities. Alberto is bilingual; he speaks English and Spanish. He loves fashion and knows how to dress up. Alberto wants to act in movies and be a star.

Madison Lehmann (Stage Manager) graduated from Yuba College with degrees in Mass Communications and Theater Arts but returned to be involved with one more production before she transferred to study Film Production. This will be the fourth Yuba College production she has been involved with, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be her second-time stage managing for the college.

Sarah Barnes (Stage Manager) is a freshman here at Yuba College. This is her first year doing technical work, but she is no stranger to theater. She was in many plays throughout her years from Annie to Pirates of Penzance and many more. She is currently the President of the Yuba College Psychology club and is running for Student Body Vice President. She plans to graduate in 2024 with 2 degrees in Psychology and Behavioral Science. From there, she plans to get her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and pursue a career in research. She loves gardening, the outdoors, and her puppy.

Technical Director and Designer: Joseph P. Stottmann

With degrees in Theatre Arts and Art, they have been involved in over 70 productions throughout the Yuba-Sutter area over the last 27 years.  They have received multiple Elly nominations for Lighting Design from SARTA and an Outstanding Achievement Award in Lighting Design from the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.  They served as President of the Board of Directors for Yuba Sutter Arts from 2009-2012 and as founding Board Member and Technical Director of the Borgamaria Lyric Opera.  In 2016 they became a founding co-owner of Legion M, a fan-owned entertainment company, and recently they have branched into independent film production with three upcoming films.

Vocal Coach/Associate Director – Conrad Cecil

Born and raised in England, Conrad lived for several years in Paris, where he ran a theatre company and performed in both French and English. He is a classically trained actor, having studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Kings College, and East 15 Acting School. He has acted in films alongside Sophie Marceau, Liam Cunningham, and Clémence Poésy, in Shakesperean roles including Richard II, Cassius in Julius Caesar 2014 (2014), and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and in several Greek plays for television, including The Trojan Women (2021) and Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, which are aired on Theatre Classics Channel.

Rose Irvine is a student at Yuba College working toward earning her Associate of Arts degree in Theatre Arts. Annie Jump Cannon – Dorothy Christie

Dorothy Christy is returning to the Yuba College theatre for Silent Sky. She has appeared in Caucasian Chalk Circle, Stage Door, and Almost Maine. She has also done various tech positions in other Yuba College Productions. Dorothy recently Stage managed Oleanna at The Acting Company.

Margaret Leavitt – Julia Irvine

Julia Irvine is a 19-year-old student currently dual-enrolled at Yuba and Butte College. This is Julia’s second college production; her first being Butte College’s Fall 2021 Showcase, in which she helped to create an abstract scene with original music, spotlighting mental health and suicide awareness. Julia is a kinesiology major and teaches at the In-Step School of Dance. Julia is passionate about creating meaningful original content and looks forward to what God has in store for her future. Julia is thankful for this experience, and thanks her sister, Rose, for being one of her biggest supporters and inspirations.

Elsie Marie Prather is a theatre major at Yuba College. She enjoyed playing Florina in our college’s production of A Virtual Whodunnit and multiple characters in The Laramie Project.  She has loved performing from a young age and plans on pursuing a BFA in theatre performance. Some of her favorite past acting experiences consist of: playing Ronnette in her high school’s production of Little Shop of Horrors, and being the female understudy for her high school’s production of The Miracle Worker. She’d like to thank her friends and family for all the love and support, as well as for putting up with her belting show tunes on road trips.
